Red Brick doesn’t believe in participation trophies.
When we’re in it, we’re in it to win it. Elementary school field days? Undefeated. Woodchopping contests and Jeep pulls? #Champ Monday Night Bingo Championship Playoff? It was over when we heard ‘the winner is whoever can drink this shot of warm vodka through a straw the fastest.” WILL NO ONE CHALLENGE US?
And while those may or may not be real world examples of our competitiveness (they are) the fact remains that we’re proud of the work we do for our clients and we always want to be improving.
Red Brick started when two friends that wanted to do creative work and maybe get paid for it got together at a local dive bar and said, “Yeah, we can do that."
We entered a few projects in North Alabama's American Advertising Awards (ADDYs). We didn’t fully understand what an ADDY Award was but we were proud of our work and thought we’d see what a neutral panel of judges thought about it, too.
Now join us on a mental journey. Close your eyes and imagine enthusiastic applause cheering a young Sally Field as she walks to the stage and screams“YOU LIKE ME! YOU REALLY LIKE ME!”
That’s how we felt when our work was recognized with seven ADDYs our first time up - including us receiving best of show honors for our work for Downtown Huntsville, Inc..
Fast forward from that night way back when two advertising unknowns shocked the world (or at least advertising professionals in the greater North Alabama area) to some three years later.
Now, we take company skydiving trips with parachutes made of the house flags of our defeated foes, the aroma of victory fluttering gently behind us, for charity, and we continue to shock the world.
Okay, that isn’t entirely true. We’re still just a few creative misfits that love what they do, have fun doing it, and always challenge themselves to get better.
Getting better has included receiving best of show honors in three of our four years from the North Alabama chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Including this year’s haul, our work has been recognized with 50 (!) American Advertising Awards.
We try to get better in a lot of areas, too. Our work's recognitions have included everything from television ads to stationary packages, original music, illustration, brand development, 100 foot long forced perspective murals, beer labels and websites for global defense contractors.
Our fambly has grown over the years, too. We’ve added a superhero squad of fearlessly talented designers, copywriters, cinematographers and one energetic assistant that keeps the whole place running.
We’ve had highs, lows, success, struggles, professional growth, and personal loss.
Through all of that and all to come, we’ve continued to build award-winning work for our clients brick by brick. And Red Brick is built by an often dysfunctional group of creative maniacs that have hundreds of personal idiosyncrasies that have each others’ back and, above all, whether it’s professional or personal, lift each other up.
We mentioned "fambly" earlier and you may be wondering what that means. To borrow from Disney’s ‘Lilo & Stitch,' fambly means no one gets left behind or forgotten.
From that night that seems like a lifetime ago and those very first awards, all the way to this year’s recognitions at the 2017 event, and every day in between, we remember a few more of those Disney words of wisdom.

The 2017 American Advertising Federation - North Alabama (AAFNA) American Advertising Awards were held on Friday, February 17 at the historic Princess Theater in Decatur, Alabama.
Red Brick Strategies was awarded best of show honors for its "Unimpeachable Pale Ale" campaign for Salty Nut Brewery. Red Brick has received best of show honors at the 2013, 2015 and 2016 events.
